{"id":281,"date":"2013-02-09T00:16:07","date_gmt":"2013-02-09T05:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/juliannedavidow.com\/demonew\/?p=281"},"modified":"2016-03-17T08:18:51","modified_gmt":"2016-03-17T12:18:51","slug":"climbing-across-limitations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juliannedavidow.com\/demonew\/blog\/2013\/02\/09\/climbing-across-limitations\/","title":{"rendered":"Climbing Over Limitations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>What does Focus and Transcend mean?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Focus<\/strong> in Latin means hearth or fireplace.\u00a0 When we focus, we shine the light of our attention on whatever we would like to bring warmth, energy, or life to.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Transcend<\/strong> comes from the Latin <em>transcendere<\/em>, meaning to climb over.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Through better directing our focus, we can go beyond our perceived limitations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who are you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Each of us was born in a certain time and a certain place, with particular talents and gifts as well as with obstacles and difficulties to deal with.\u00a0 And each of us is unique, with a special path to follow.<\/p>\n<p>Those with attention issues (ADHD) don\u2019t suffer from a deficit as much as a global sense of attention.\u00a0 Everything seems interesting.\u00a0 So it may be difficult to focus, or bring attention and concentrate on just one thing at a time.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Mindfulness and Focusing\" href=\"https:\/\/juliannedavidow.com\/demonew\/mindfulness-focusing\/\">Mindfulness <\/a>is one tool that can bring a new quality to life and help establish a more focused mind.<\/p>\n<p>Through mindfulness techniques we can develop the skills to concentrate on the activity we are performing, and learn to bring our attention back to it when distractions occur.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you want to achieve?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What we think upon grows.\u00a0 Wherever we shine the light of our attention, our minds follow.\u00a0 And if we are following many things at one time, little can be accomplished.<\/p>\n<p>However, we can begin to quiet the body, quiet the mind, and train the attention to go in the direction we choose.<\/p>\n<p>The following exercise was taken from the book: <em>The Mindfulness Prescription for Adult ADHD<\/em> by Lidia Zylowska, M.D.<\/p>\n<p>You can try this for yourself, and teach your children to use it as well.<\/p>\n<p>The next time you feel yourself pulled in many different directions, remember the word:<\/p>\n<p><strong>STOP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>S<\/strong>: Stop or pause<br \/>\n<strong>T<\/strong>: Take a breath and relax<br \/>\n<strong>O<\/strong>: Observe in the present moment<br \/>\nWhat sounds do I notice?<br \/>\nWhat is my breath like?<br \/>\nHow does my body feel?<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong>: Proceed<br \/>\nWhere was my attention before I stopped?<br \/>\nShall I continue with what I was doing or switch to something else?<\/p>\n<p>If your thoughts are negative or self-judgmental, take a moment to notice that and switch the conversation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhen you connect to the silence within you, that is when you can make sense of the disturbance going on around you.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u2015 Stephen Richards<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What does Focus and Transcend mean?
