Bob Dylan wrote the song \u201cThe Times They Are A-Changin\u201d<\/a> in fall of 1963, a pivotal time in US history. Martin Luther King had just delivered his \u201cI Have a Dream\u201d speech in August of 1963 at the famous March on Washington, and the civil rights movement was at its height. The country was engaged in a war in Southeast Asia, and in November, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.<\/p>\n

The lyrics of \u201cThe Times They Are A Changin\u2019\u201d reflected Dylan\u2019s views on social injustices and the government\u2019s unhelpful attitude towards change. And although the song was written due to the political situation at that time, it is equally applicable now.<\/p>\n

We are obviously living during a time of great upheaval. How do we find the courage to keep on believing in our own personal hopes and dreams while also knowing that each of us is responsible for taking part in the world around us? How do we keep from letting everything drag us down?<\/p>\n

When you follow your dreams and do work that is meaningful for you, you also have to take into consideration the contribution you are making to the whole of society. Any work you do can be dedicated for the benefit of all. In Buddhism, and other faith traditions, one of the most– if not the <\/strong>most important part of any endeavor is the intention you make. What is your purpose? In Judaism it is taught that each of us is here to heal the world, that everything we do makes a difference.<\/p>\n

If your intention is to do work that is beneficial not only to yourself but to everyone, then whatever you do will lift others up. And by lifting others up, you will help them have the courage to lift others up as well.<\/p>\n

Raise your thinking and keep working on your creative projects or other endeavors. Almost every occupation can be dedicated to benefit others: artist, writer, dancer, actor, farmer, health care provider, waiter, teacher, lawyer, politician, business person. Although there may be darkness around you, that doesn\u2019t matter as long as you keep your eye on where you are heading. Head toward the light. When you keep your thoughts on victory, then you are helping to lift the world situation.<\/p>\n

Every person is important and has something to contribute. Write your intention, then live it.<\/p>\n
